From the Suburbs to the Streets.

1

City Style  by salad-eyes featuring bdg

When I was looking at universities last year, the main thing on my criteria check list was location. I need to be in the city, it  is the heart and the streets are its vains. Being able to navigate and explore a place I practically grew up in and yet, ironically, knew nothing about. As a commuter it is important to not only look stylish but to be prepared. (Those of you who are lucky to not have to endure exhausting subway lines and trains rides that re enact the feeling of being in a sardine tin I envy you) I have created a style board of things that I find beneficial, if not essential, for embracing city life.
Hunter Rain Boots -  One of the most surprising things I've come to realize is the amount of precipitation Toronto endures during the Fall. Prior to the chaos of Tropical Storm Sandy, Toronto went through a solid week of rain. These boots seemed like the only appropriate thing to wear and the crocodile print makes you look luxurious as you brace crazy weather conditions.
Trench Coat - There's something magical and very Holly Golightly when the trench coat comes to play in your daily attire. I recommend a coat that doesn't surpass the knee as it ends up being a jacket-is-wearing-you situation
Infinity scarves - Scarves in general are a staple for me. They dress up any outfit and are perfect for days when you alarm clock doesn't go off, you have nothing to wear, the train already left and you're running late and you feel like your whole life is about to go to.. you get the idea.
Cat-Eye Sunglasses - Similar to the scarf situation, I adore sunglasses. Shamelessly I admit, I have found myself slipping on a pair between classes even if there isn't the slightest hint of sun. Their wonderful little things that you can use you as a hairband when your bangs are getting in the way. Cat-Eye frames look particularly flawless when paired with a high up do.
Umbrella- Portable, Extendable whatever the tag says, as long as it fit in my bag and covers my head an umbrella is essential! You never know when unexpected showers may appear.
A watch - I know, I know, most people use their phones to check the time. I myself can not come to practice this trait seeing as I can never find my phone. A watch is an easy solution, it's strapped to your wrist and makes a great accessory when stacking bracelets. I personally love the style of mens watches.
A Satchel Purse - I used to love wearing backpacks. You know, back in the day when the Olsen twins had a clothing line and everyone had everything from it.. including stationary and school supplies. I love Satchels as I like having my belongings close to me. They carry my books and are big enough to carry small purchases made while walking through the city.
Button-down tops - Crisp, white loose or tight I love the all. Button down tops are so versatile and never go out of style.
To-Go perfume - Fresh, floral scents. Nothing completely overpowering like this Daisy by Marc Jacobs Perfume.
Black pants- These pants are perfect for the city. They're slimming, the versatility is incomparable and who doesn't love wearing something that is both fashionable and comfy?
